The Grande View Lodge forms part of the privately owned Canyon Nature Park, a vast area of 600km which borders onto 120km of the Fish River Canyon. The en-suite chalets are situated on the western rim of the canyon and overlook the Main Viewpoint. The location of this lodge is unmatched in the Canyon area.

The Fish River Canyon is the second largest Canyon in the world and represents one of the great natural wonders of Africa. A gigantic ravine, 161km long, up to 27km wide and in places almost 550metres deep. It has been gouged out of the surface of the land in the course of millions of years by the forces of nature.

Recommended equipment provided by client:

• Tents, sleeping mattresses
• Food, drinks & cooking equipment
• Medical kit: make provision for individual needs, please (guide also carries basic kit)
• Insurance coverage for any form of accident & air lifting from anywhere in Namibia. Clients must hand in emergency numbers at the reception office before departure on the hike. Canyon Nature Park will not be responsible for the costs related to rescues.
• Hand over signed indemnity forms at office
• Very good quality (worn in) hiking boots & extra pair sneakers
• Two or more pairs of very good quality socks - 100% wool / cotton
• Two sets of cool clothing (Cotton T-shirts and shorts will do)
• One set of warm clothing
• Hat & creams (30 factor sun screens)
• Backpack (hikers carry own packs – hip support type always best)
• Good quality sleeping bag
• Water bottle: at least 3 liter capacity
• Water clarifying tablets or water purifying pump
• Camera - a must! Please see that you have enough batteries, as there will be no charging facilities, once down in the canyon
• Flash light or head lamp (preferably small and good quality, like MAG-lights) & extra batteries
• Any other personal items according to need

Please try to use only biodegradable soaps, washing detergent, shampoos and other chemical substances
