Previously, Lord Fraser Guest House was the summer residence of the well-known, blind Lord Ian Fraser of Lonsdale. He was the chairman of the board of the once powerful retail business, Frasers, in Lesotho. On his death in 1974 Lord Fraser wished his home to become the Ian Fraser Memorial College. After the closing down of Fraser's Head Office in Wepener in 1988, the buildings were donated to the municipality to be converted into a museum. This never materialized and the property was sold to Willem and Wilna Swanepoel in 1993 and they have turned it at great expense into the present Lord Fraser Guest House.
After dinner you may retire to the patio, there to enjoy a nightcap of cognac or liqueur. On waking up the next morning, feeling refreshed and invigorated, you can enjoy a hearty farm-style breakfast ready to resume your journey or enjoy the attractions in the area or neighbouring Lesotho. Conference facilities for 40 people available in a restful atmosphere. Each double suite was carefully restored to its original style and tastefully decorated to create the authentic feeling. 18 Suites are available and 8 Suites are in the old Fraser house. Recreation facilities are numerous. For the more adventurous there is a hiking trail, mountain cycle route and a 4x4 route used by the Caledon 400 Rally annually. The latter has been recognized internationally. Anglers can enjoy excellent angling at two state-owned dams as well as at the farm dams. Tennis facilities are also available. To enjoy the facilities please supply your own equipment.

Wepener is conveniently situated on the R26 about 64 kilometers north of Zastron and 100 kilometers south of Ladybrand. It is a convenient stop-over place for those travelling either to and from the Cape or Johannesburg, Natal and the Lowfeld. Lots of tourist attractions are available within walking distance. Just a visit to the library or the municipal property is worth the while already. The beautiful town hall, the monument gate with prominent statue of Cmdt. Louw Wepener and a few other attractions will impress a traveller. The architectural NG Church that towers above the town is something spectacular. The long steel bridge over the Caledon river, which is on it's own a national treasure is also something to see. The flood marks and consequences of the disastrous flood in February 1988 is still clearly visible.
