Meno a Kwena Tented Camp
Meno a Kwena Camp:
Meno a Kwena is situated on the edge of Boteti River, which forms the western boundary of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park in Botswana.
The area is home to southern Africa's largest wildebeest and zebra migration, meerkats, and all species of African predators including brown hyena, - perhaps the most diverse natural wildlife habitats in southern Africa, all within reach of Meno a Kwena Tented Camp!
The salt pans are a fascinating source of archaeological and historic relics in and around what was once the bed of a vast inland lake. Hosts offer optional salt pans experience safaris that include a quad bike trip into the middle of the salt pan to sleep out in a camp set up in advance under a canopy of stars.
Meno a Kwena Tented Camp is a traditional classic camp offering breathtaking views over the dry riverbed, Makgadikgadi Pans National Park and a waterhole. The main complex tent comprises the lounge and dining area, library, bar and kitchen, from where delicious traditional safari meals are prepared. All meals are cooked on the campfire by the in-house chef, and prepared specially for the BBQ and ‘tin box oven’, adding to our guests’ authentic safari experience.
Canvas shelter viewing areas around the ‘natural’ rock pool offer a unique vantage point above the riverbed, an ‘up close’ viewing hide brings guests closer to the wildlife activity.
Staff of Meno a Kwena - management, guides and support crew - all help to maintain the safari experience with care and dedication to the guests’ every need. The safari camp cuisine is prepared in such a way that it is as much of a safari experience as all the other aspects of life in the bush. Hosts cook on the campfire – BBQ Botswana beef fillets, BBQ chicken, BBQ chops, grilled fish, and these are supplemented with fresh vegetables and salads. Puddings, cheese, biscuits and fresh tropical fruits end the meals on a sweet note. Picnic lunches are supplied for day trips into the national parks.
Please be aware that the Boteti River has since flowed for the first time in almost twenty years. This is very exciting and the wildlife of the national parks and is a positive development in every way for safari operations and wildlife conservation efforts.
Meno a Kwena - the fully serviced authentic safari camp maintains an atmosphere of the original safari experience. The guests appreciate this, as it is the true African safari style experience they want.
Hosts utilise safari tents and equipment from a former ‘mobile’ safari days and combine these with permanent fixtures, built by local craftspeople, with locally collected materials. There are, of course, the luxuries of flush toilets and a natural Boteti rock pool to wallow in on hot summer days.
At Meno a Kwena each of the seven fully serviced safari tents with semi-attached bathrooms, including a shower and flush toilet each, are set on the edge of the riverbank. A hundred feet below camp is the waterhole that attracts thousands of animals during the dry season. A lot of emphasis in the camp experience is placed on the theatre view from camp, and so no matter where guests are they may watch the scenes played out, whether from the plunge pool, their tents, the verandas, or the bathrooms.
