* Camping information:
Camping at Palmwag is on a self-catering basis. Additionally, light lunch /
dinner can be ordered at the lapa near the pool and poolbar, but regrettably no
breakfast. There are electric points, ablution facilities are shared with
other campers (hot & cold water) and every site has a fire place. Camp sites are
mostly shaded by palm trees and shrubs. Campers are welcome to make use of the
pool, poolbar, lapa (restaurant) and to partake in host activities. Bookings are
essential as there are only 8 sites of various sizes at
the lodge.

Letter on rhino patrol tours
Dear partners in tourism,
We regret having to advise that because of various conservation and ethical
reasons as stated below, the popular daily rhino patrol PW 005 will no longer
be offered as an activity by the lodge. Research conducted lately has shown
that excessive stress has been put onto the species and if this activity will
be continued, more stress and in all probability a casualty will be the end
result. In addition a new rhino monitoring program was launched recently
where radio transmitters have been implanted into the horns of some rhino in
order to exactly monitor their behaviour and movements in the concession area.
With continued support to the SRT and conservation as such, we have decided to
discontinue the activity with immediate effect. I am convinced that the
outcome of this in the long term will be beneficial to all parties involved. A
suitable alternative activity in this case is our popular PW 004 – Damaraland
Wildlife day tour where the client, apart from an exciting encounter with all
normal plains animals inclusive of the desert elephant (dry season), will in
all probability see rhinos as well. The only difference is that the tour will
not be accompanied by the SRT specialists and clients will not be able to
physically track the rhino on foot.
A very serious and dedicated rhino tracking project is supported and offered
through our Palmwag Rhino Camp operation and I want to encourage you as our
loyal supporter to assist us in our efforts and consequently common goal;
saving the last black rhino in one of the most fantastic true Namibian
wildlife areas.
Best regards,
Jockel Gruettemeyer
