Shamvura Camp |
Situated on a large forested sand dune and one of the very few high points along the Okavango River, Shamvura Camp offers spectacular views over the river and surrounding flood plains. The treetop cottage affords the visitor a birds-eye view of one of the last remnants of natural riverine forest comprising mainly of "Knobthorn Acacia" (Acacia nigrescens). The surrounding flood plains comprise of Phragmites mauritianus reeds and patches of papyrus, and are vital breeding areas for more than 80 species of fish and a habitat for over 60 species of wetland birds. S
hamvura Camp is strategically located ±130km east of Rundu, just off the main B8 tar road to Katima Mulilo. The location is convenient for easy access to the Kaudom Game Reserve (±65km), the Mahango Game Park (±100km) and onward via the Mohembo Gate into neighbouring Botswana. There is more than sufficient space for additional tents, vehicles and camping equipment. In addition this site has a fully-equipped kitchen boasting a refrigerator/freezer, gas-stove, washing facilities, extensive workspace, electrical outlet plus crockery and cutlery for 8 people. Electricity consumption in the kitchen will be charged on unit-usage. The second exclusive and private campsite, Combretum Camp, is enclosed by a 2-metre high reed fence and has a large family tent with verandah and gas/battery operated lights. The tent is furnished, including four beds with linen. The camp site has private ablution facilities consisting of one shower / toilet cubicle with hot & cold water, and ‘braai' / barbeque area with table and chairs. Firewood is provided at no additional charge. The setting of this camp under its own large tree provides guests with exclusive privacy and exceptional view over the neighbouring extensive Angolan flood plains.
