interest in Desert Express, Namibias Unique Rail Experience. We would like to brief you
shortly why Desert Express should be an integral part of your agenda on your visit to our
magnificent country, Namibia.
As you know, Namibia is renowned for its wide open spaces and superb sunrises and
sunsets. The timetable has been specifically designed to coincide with the sunrise and
sunsets. Uniquely shaped large windows throughout the train, include the traveller in the
wide open spaces.
Windhoek –Swakopmund Schedule:
Fridays
Winter (Summer)
Check in at Windhoek station. 11:30 (12:30)
Depart. 12:00 (13:00)
Game drive at Oropoko. 15:30 (16:30)
Dinner. 19:00 (19:00)
Overnight at a secure siding.
Breakfast. 07:00 (07:00)
Dune excursion. 08:00 (08:00)
Arrive Swakopmund Saturdays 10:00 (10:00)
Winter time April—September
Dinner 19:00 & 21:00 if two sittings are required
Smoking on The Desert Express is only allowed in demarcated areas.
Please note that passengers are responsible for own transfers to and from the
train.
Swakopmund—Windhoek Schedule:

The train has twenty-four compartments, each accommodating one, two or three
passengers. The compartments are fully air conditioned and heated and have en-suite
facilities as standard. Passengers have access to an elegant lounge, unique bistro bar and
spacious restaurant that serves the best in Namibian cuisine.

Rates are per person, one way. Group & Charter rates will be sent on request.
Rates include dinner,
bed, breakfast, tax and excursions. Drinks on-board, lunch, gratuities and souvenirs are
for the passengers own account.
(Please take note: Minimum age for travel on Desert Express is 4 years. Exclusive
coach available for children 4 - 10 years).

without notice. Desert Express since its inception, has and will continue to amend various
aspects of
the product, to afford, you, our esteemed passenger "the best possible
unique
rail experience".
Desert Express is a multi-functional facility and can be utilized for any special
function, product launch, seminar, team-building session and the like.
Desert Express is a full member of the Hospitality Association
of Namibia (HAN).
Pre-payments are required: Individuals minimum 14 days, Groups up to 12
compartments, 30 days and groups requiring 13 to 24 compartments, 60 days prior to
departure. Should bookings be taken and confirmed
within the allocated periods, then
payments must be received within
24 hours.
SMOKING: Only in the smokers'
lounge, which is in the bar area
but nowhere else. There are two sections: a smokers and non-smokers.
The rest of the train, especially the restaurant and the compartments are NO SMOKING ZONES.
Car transportation: 600 N$ one way.

DAY ETOSHA BREAK AWAY
Day 1. Thursday 08:00. Check in Windhoek station. 09:00 Depart.
Biltong stop at Okahandja. Light lunch on the train. Dinner and overnight at
Otjiwarongo on the train
Day 2. 07:00 Breakfast. 12:30 Lunch. 14:00 Train arrive at Dr Sam Nujoma
station.
14:30 Afternoon game drive in Etosha through King Nehale gate.
(App 3 hours)
Evening Barbeque on platform. Overnight on train.
Day 3. 07:00 Breakfast. Early morning game drive (App 4 hours).
14:00 Train depart for Windhoek. Lunch dinner and overnight on the train.
Day 4. Breakfast and lunch on the train. 11:00 Excursion in Okahandja.
14:00. Arrive Windhoek.

6 DAY SWAKOPMUND & ETOSHA HOLIDAY
Day 1. Friday
14:30. Depart from Windhoek (No lunch) Biltong stop at Okahandja. Dinner &
overnight on the train. Train stationary for the night at Kranzberg
Day 2.
06:30 Breakfast. Arrive Swakopmund (Rand Rifles) 08:00. Excursion by bus to
dune 7, the Walvis Bay Lagoon and the salt works. Back to Swakopmund for a tour
through the town. 14:00 Lunch on the train. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner &
overnight on the train.
Day 3.
06:30 Breakfast. 08:00 Depart for a tour through the Moon landscapes and the
Welwitchia valley. Pick nick lunch. 14:00 Depart for Otjiwarongo for overnight
on the train.
Day 4.
07:00 Depart for Etosha. 12:30 Lunch.14:00 Arrive Dr Sam Nujoma station.
14:30 Afternoon game drive in Etosha through King Nehale gate.
19:00 Dinner (BBQ) on the platform. Overnight on the train.
Day 5.
07:00 Breakfast. 08:30 Early game drive. 14:00 Train departs for Windhoek.
Dinner and overnight on train at Otjiwarongo.
Day 6. Wednesday
Depart for Windhoek with breakfast and lunch on the train.
11:00 Visit craft market in Okahandja.
14:00 Arrive Windhoek.

N$ 8 500.00 sharing and N$ 12 250.00 single

8-13/2, 7-12/3, 18-23/4, 30/5-4/6, 13-18/6,
25-30/7, 3-8/10 and 14-19/11
Return journey Windhoek - Swakopmund - Windhoek
A return trip on the Desert Express will cost only N$ 2 585.00 pp sharing
and N$ 3 355.00 for single travellers. Children up to 12 years old sharing with
parents will travel at N$ 1299.00 per child. Children older than 12 will travel
at adult rates.
No lunch is served but snacks are offered for lunch on both legs.
Please note that you do not have to undertake the return leg immediately but can
stay over for a week or two and then do the return leg.
You can either spend your time in Swakopmund exploring the town or you can do
the Mola Mola boat cruise with oysters and champagne. This will be N$ 850.00 per
person extra. Passengers will be collected at the stop at Rand Rifles behind the
dunes and delivered to the train at the station in Swakopmund.
Please also remember that we offer you the opportunity of taking your vehicle
with you on the train for only N$ 900.00 if you would like to stay longer and
want to be mobile whilst in Swakopmund. Most car hire companies also have
offices in Swakopmund.
